Sringeri

Located at an approximate distance of 75 km from the Karthik Estate Cottages in Chikmagalur, is the Sringeri. It is considered one of the holiest Hindu pilgrim centres as it was the first Peetha out of the four Peethas (centres) laid by the great sage Adi Shankaracharya.

This place has been the most visited place out of all the places in Chikmagalur for its holy origin. Sringeri has the very famous Sri Sharadamba Temple where the deity of Goddess Sharade blesses its visitors. The Golden Idol of Goddess Sharade is known as the Goddess of knowledge, music, art and wisdom.

Nearby to Sringeri is the Vidyashankara Temple, its 12 sculpted pillars, each representing a zodiac sign are placed in such a manner so that the sun’s rays fall on each successively, in the order of the solar months.
