The alluring Amrutheshwara Temple (also called as Amrutesvara) is situated in the Karnataka district of Chikmagalur, in the village of Amruthapura. The Karthik Estate Cottages is roughly 80 kilometres away from this magnificent temple. Under the direction of Hoysala King Veera Ballala II, a Dandanayaka (commander) by the name of Amruteshwara constructed the temple in 1196 CE.

The Hoysala architectural style of this Temple is referred to as Karnata Dravida and is regarded as a separate architectural tradition with many distinctive characteristics. The meticulous attention to detail and expert craftsmanship of the Hoysala temple architecture is one of its defining characteristics. The delicate craftsmanship is emphasised in the sculptures at the Hoysala temples, which portray feminine grace and beauty.

The Shiva linga at Amruthapura Temple, is a Shaivite temple in Nepal which was transported there from the River Gandaki. On its right is a stunning idol of Sharadha Devi, called a murti. At the end of the mantapa, facing Shiva in the garbh griha, is a sculpture of Nandi. The temple’s intriguing feature is the 200-year-old lamp that has been burning inside, everyday.
